About our Villages

This is a very special council for a very special location, the historic rural villages of Throop (including Muccleshell) and Holdenhurst on the outskirts of Bournemouth, bordering Christchurch on the River Stour in Dorset.

Throop & Holdenhurst Village Council was officially inaugurated 1st April 2021 following an application from local residents. Ours is the ONLY parish council to be established within the former Bournemouth Borough Council area, and therefore extremely important in representing local democracy in action.

In March 2019 the residents petitioned the newly formed unitary authority Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council [BCP] to request the creation of a Parish Council to represent this specific area.

The aim is to have an influential voice and a ‘seat at the table’ to shape the future of this locality by upholding its unique and rural setting in the green belt, conservation areas and the River Stour for future generations to come.
